What is HMIS?

The Homeless Management Information System is a community-wide information system for agencies providing housing and services to homeless people through the City of Cincinnati/Hamilton County Continuum of Care.

A unified data collection system benefits homeless clients, service providers and the community. A community-wide data system and an unduplicated count by 2004 is required in order to receive HUD funding for homeless services.

For homeless clients

  • Eliminates redundant intake and screening
  • Coordinates case management
  • Provides strategic referrals
  • Strengthens the network of service agencies.

For service providers

  • Monitors service utilization and client outcomes
  • Coordinates services across multiple programs
  • Simplifies demographics, service counts and reporting.

For the community

  • Data reveals high demand service areas and service gaps
  • Clarifies local understanding about homelessness
  • Informs decision makers and public policy.
